Yellow Bittern eating dragonfly

After we posted an account of a Yellow Bittern (Ixobrychus sinensis) eating a damselfly, Daniel Chia sent in a series of images of another Yellow Bittern, this time eating a dragonfly.

The images were taken on 15th March around noon at the freshwater pond at the entrance of the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve’s Visitors Centre.

Danile apologises for the over-exposure of his images as he “was using an old manual focus mirror lens which I whipped out of the bag immediately after spotting the bird, and started shooting, without making any adjustments to exposure…

As a scientific record, any image is better than no image. Without images, there is no way of disputing a report. Neither is there a way to confirm the identification of the food taken.
