In August 2007 Dr Johathan Cheah Weng Kwong was at Kranji where the chicks from the breeding colony of Little Terns (Sterna albifrons) had just fledged.
There is an earlier account of adults feeding the chicks, which took place on land, near the nesting site.
The series of images Jonathan is sharing with us (above, clockwise from top left) show an adult feeding a fledgling in the water. Once the fledgling got hold of the fish, it swam away and flew off the water. Obviously this is a further learning stage for the juvenile, where feeding is done in the water, a prelude to teaching the latter to catch its own fish.
